From the 19th March 2018 onwards, it is no longer possible to apply for the 457 work visa; the 457 work visa has been effectively replaced with the new TSS Visa – the 482 “Temporary Skills Shortage” visa.
The TSS visa has a short-term stream and a medium-term stream. The medium term stream can lead to permanent residency whilst the short-term stream cannot.
To apply for either stream of the TSS Visa, you must:
· Have an approved sponsor who has nominated you for an eligible occupation.
· Meet all skills and qualification requirements for the nominated position.
· Score at least 5 overall and at least 4.5 in every category on IELTS.
· Meet the requirements specific to each stream (see below) .
SHORT-TERM STREAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
· The nominated occupation must be on the Short Term Skilled Occupation List for TSS Visas.
· You must have worked full-time in this occupation or a related field for at least two years.
· Be a genuine applicant for a short-term visa i.e. you do not intend to overstay your TSS Visa.
MEDIUM-TERM STREAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
· The nominated occupation must be on the Medium Long Term Strategic Skills List for TSS Visas.
· You must have worked full-time in this occupation or a related field for at least two years.
