The Global Talent Visa (Subclass 858) provides permanent residency to applicants who have an internationally recognized record of outstanding achievement in a profession, a sport, the arts or academic/research.
The Department of Home Affairs is currently interested in applicants in the following target sectors:
- Agri-food and AgTech
- Health Industries
- Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space
- Circular Economy
- Infrastructure and Tourism
- Financial Services and FinTech
To be eligible for the Global Talent Visa, an applicant must generally be under 55, be internationally recognized for their outstanding achievements, still be prominent in their field and currently command a very high salary. Importantly, the global talent visa application must be nominated by an Australian association or person in the same field. PhD students who are researching a field that has global application may also apply for the Global Talent Visa in some circumstances.
